The Caterpillar sat upon the mushroom and was terribly bored — yet she did it with such ceremony that no one dared to interrupt. “How curious,” she thought, “if one does nothing very diligently, does it count as work?”
A teacup nearby wobbled slightly — it seemed to know the answer but wisely kept silent.
The Caterpillar merely narrowed her eyes. “Rules,” she said, “are made for those who cannot imagine.”
The wind brushed the edge of the mushroom, and the world paused for a heartbeat — as if thinking over her words. But no one understood a thing. And perhaps that is precisely why the world remains so very interesting.
